S.W. Collins Makes Donation to House in the Woods

June 3, 2015

Lincoln – As part of the grand opening celebration of its new store in Lincoln, the S.W. Collins Company made a presentation to House in the Woods whose mission is to create a therapeutic, recreational, and educational retreat for our nation’s U.S. armed forces and their families.  The non-profit organization is currently constructing a new building at its home base in Lee and the $2,500 donation will go towards the purchase of new windows.

Paul and Dee House are the parents of Sgt. Joel A. House who was killed in Taji, Iraq in 2007 while serving with the U.S. Army’s 1st Calvary Division of Fort Hood, Texas. In an effort to keep their son’s memory alive, family and friends have established an outdoor retreat program that assists our returning veterans in the journey towards healing the mental and physical pain of loss.

“We are very appreciative to S.W. Collins for contributing to the construction of our new building,” said Paul House. “We have a long ways to go but this will definitely help our efforts to complete the project.”

The donation was presented to the House family by Don Collins, former president of S.W. Collins and World War II Veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

President Sam Collins stated, “We are pleased to be able to assist with the building of the House in the Woods and honor our many Veterans and fallen heroes. We all owe a debt of gratitude to the many men and women who have served our country to keep us safe and free.”

S.W. Collins is a fifth-generation Aroostook County lumber and building supply dealer with locations in Lincoln, Houlton, Presque Isle and Caribou.  Their commitment to offering excellent products and legendary service has been the core of the business since 1844.

S.W. Collins Named “Independent Pro Dealer of the Year”

January 21, 2015

Caribou – Home Channel News, the building products and home improvement retailing magazine of Lebhar-Friedman Inc., named S.W. Collins Co. as the 2014 Independent Pro Dealer of the Year.

S.W. Collins, “The Pioneer Lumberyard,” serves Maine through four locations in Presque Isle, Houlton, Lincoln and its headquarters in Caribou.

The annual award, selected by editors of Home Channel News with the input of key suppliers and industry stakeholders, is designed to recognize a high-performance company with a commitment to best practices and the best values of the lumber and building material industry.

“The Independent Pro Dealer of the Year Award has a long tradition of recognizing a forward-thinking family business,” said Ken Clark, editor in chief of Home Channel News. “S.W. Collins has earned that reputation over five generations.”

The company manages a new design center, a custom-millwork operation and a healthy windows and doors business. The family business’ growth-oriented mind-set is revealed in its 2013 acquisition of Haskell Lumber, and its current plans to relocate the lumberyard in a brand new Lincoln facility. With the relocation will come a 25,000-sq.-ft. drive-through lumberyard and an 18,000-sq.-ft. store and millwork warehouse.

“Our success for five generations is directly attributed to our engaged and dedicated employees who take pride in their job and understand that we need to be always customer-centric and be smarter each day in how we conduct business,” said Sam Collins. “As a company we are committed to investing in our infrastructure and more importantly in our people.”

Collins accepted the Independent Pro Dealer of the Year Award on behalf of the company during the 2014 Pro Dealer Industry Summit Oct. 28-30 in San Diego, California. The Summit was sponsored jointly by the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) and HCN.
